Mark Talbert, MD, FACS

Dr. Talbert grew up in a small town in West Virginia. He graduated magna cum laude from Marshall University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended medical school at Marshall University where he received his Medical Degree and served as President of the local Christian Medical & Dental Association chapter.

Shortly after medical school, Dr. Talbert was commissioned Captain with the United States Army Reserves. After finishing the five year General Surgery residency at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, Dr. Talbert became Attending Surgeon at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City where he was also Chief of General Surgery. Serving our country’s veterans provided Dr. Talbert with a rewarding and deep experience. During his three years at the VA, he was deployed by the US Army to serve in Fort Irwin, California and Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo during the time that Kosovo declared their independence. Dr. Talbert and his family then took a one year Sabbatical to MedellAÃ?­n, Colombia to allow him the opportunity to become more fluent in Spanish. In 2011, he was deployed to FOB Salerno in Eastern Afghanistan. He performed life-saving operations on US and Afghan Military as well as local Afghan civilians. Because of his accomplishments and service, he was awarded a Congressional Humanitarian Award.

He began serving the medical needs of Brevard in July 2008. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2014 after 15 years of service.

Dr. Talbert performs the spectrum of General Surgery procedures including advanced laparoscopy, breast, and robotic surgery, and has a particular interest in diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid. He lives with his family in Melbourne and is active in his church and community. His wife, Ana Restrepo, MD, practices medicine at our Gateway and Malabar Walk-in Clinics.
